Sample safety notice layout

A notice people actually read is short, specific and says what to do. Adapt this layout to your site and your own rules.

Layout

  1. Title and date. Say what it is about in plain words, for example "Working at height: harness check before every shift".
  2. Who it applies to. Site, team or role.
  3. What changed or what to do. Three to five short points. Use the same words people use on site.
  4. Why. One sentence about the risk.
  5. Who to ask. A named person and how to reach them.
  6. What you are confirming. One line: "I have read and understood this notice."

Example wording (replace with your own rules)

Notice: Hot work permits
Applies to: all site staff and subcontractors

  • No cutting, welding or grinding without a signed hot work permit.
  • The area must be checked and a fire extinguisher must be within reach.
  • Stop work and tell your supervisor if the conditions on the permit change.

Why: sparks cause most site fires. Ask: your site supervisor.

This is a layout example, not a safety standard. Your actual rules must come from your own risk assessment and applicable regulations.
